Hello, Galaxians! As the film has wrapped, we're getting a lull in news coming out of the Guardians camp; the actors are taking a small vacation and some down-time to recoup, Marvel as a whole is gearing up for the new Thor release, but just as things seem to hit a low, we get teased with small tidbits. One of which I think might please a certain Racoonatic to hear.
First of all, the news starts off with Chris Pratt talking about Rocket Raccoon, and what to expect from the character.
Check it out after the jump.
“You think it’s a cartoon character, but it’s not, it’s a very real creature,” the actor said at the “Parks and Recreation” 100th Episode Celebration on Wednesday.
”[Rocket Raccoon has been] tortured his whole life and no one else likes him, so he’s lonely and he’s angry and it’s like, [there are] all these elements [to the character],” he continued. “You sort of forget about that, you wouldn't think about, [and] hopefully will come to life. I think it will and that’s why they hired a really good actor to do the role.”
Adding, “I could not be more excited that Bradley Cooper is voicing Rocket Raccoon, it’s a great character. It’s probably the best character in the movie, just because it’s not what you would expect.” (Full article at AccessHollywood.com )
It's awesome to see Chris so excited about the character and trying to get him a little more spotlight, considering he's such a huge part of the team and hasn't gotten the same limelight that the rest of the cast has (save for Groot, but still, the buzz with Vin keeps his naming coming up more than Rocket's).
But the really exciting part is when Kevin Feige hears about Pratt's statements. Check out the video to hear what Kevin has to say.
Kevin says that the movie hinges on Rocket and Marvel Studios' ability to make the audience believe a gun-weilding raccoon in space. That process starts with the awesome character from the comics, continues on into James Gunn's writing of Rocket, the animation of Rocket, and finally Bradley Cooper bringing the character to life.
Here's the bit I got excited about.
Kevin: "The key to Rocket is that he doesn't necessarily know, or care, that he's a raccoon. And if you point that out to him, he's not particularly pleased about it."
I think this lends credence to my earlier theory; perhaps it's more of an in-between issue. He was a raccoon, now he's more than that, and doesn't want people to see him as "just a raccoon". Of course, all of this is suspect and we'll have to wait for the movie to see exactly how it all plays out. But it looks like they're not completely taking the "raccoon" out of Rocket Raccoon.
What do you think? Can we take what Kevin said to heart; Rocket is still a raccoon? Does hearing Chris talk about Rocket being a more serious character change the way you think about the film? Is it just me, or are we talking about Rocket a lot in the last couple of weeks?

He added, "I think it will and that's why they hired a really good actor to do the role. I could not be more excited that Bradley Cooper is voicing Rocket Raccoon - it's a great character. It's probably the best character in the movie, just because it's not what you would expect."
