The modern incarnation of the Guardians of the Galaxy came together in 2008 during a Marvel Cosmic event called Annihilation: Conquest. During the event, there was a four-issue series called Star-Lord: Annihilation: Conquestby Keith Giffen. During those four issues, Star-Lord was introduced to Rocket Raccoon, Mantis, Bug, and Groot (back when Groot could say anything) and nothing has been the same ever since. Now, on February 5th, 2014, Marvel is releasing a compilation of those four issues. Here is the description:
Peter Quill is Star-Lord once more, but will he embrace his legacy? The techno-organic Phalanx have overrun the galaxy, and it's time for Star-Lord and his ragtag team of cosmic cult favorites — including Bug, Captain Universe, Deathcry, Mantis, Groot and Rocket Raccoon — to suit up and become legends! But this no-win, no-tech suicide mission starts off bad and rapidly gets worse. As hordes of the Phalanx close in, one team member might have to make the supreme sacrifice!Relive the birth of the motley crew that became the Guardians of the Galaxy!Collecting ANNIHILATION: CONQUEST — STARLORD #1-4.For those of you who haven't read it, you are in for a treat. And for those of you who have read it, it'll be nice to have all four issues together for once. Thanks to Chris Shelton for the heads up. Are you excited for this? Drop a comment below!
