Cosmic Greetings once again, fellow Galaxians! While anxiously awaiting the Q&A and 2nd full-length trailer release, I decided it would be a good time to revisit my tin-foil-hat ramblings and speculations (though I may hold back the release of this post until after the Q&A excitement as died down). I'll be going over the last post covering the things I got terribly wrong and the things I got right, and re-speculating on what the future may hold for our Guardians of the Marvel universe, at least as far as the comics are concerned.
Okay, first to recap, I made three different points in my original post. First one was on these panels.
My original assessment of these scenes were that, like the majority of the other panels like this, it was Peter seeing different versions of himself. Now we know that's wrong. Jean met up with the Guardians during Trial of Jean Grey, which explains her appearance with Peter in the bottom panel on the right. They're currently teamed-up with Captain Marvel. From the Original Sin promos we've seen, Nova comes back in some relation to Thanos. So I was totally off-base with that speculation. Interestingly enough, however, we still haven't seen hide-nor-hair of the male Captain Marvel, shown in both panels, and both shown next to Thanos. Hmmmm. What could that mean? Is it the same Captain Marvel we've seen before? Will he be working with Thanos? We may not get that answer until after Original Sin, or perhaps during. Either way, I think it's a wonderful sign that they've been planning these stories and events months ahead of time. Sometimes it feels like they're pulling things out of the air, especially with the Guardians between big events, but clearly that isn't the case. Even if we don't always agree with the direction they take our heroes in, they have a plan and definite direction they're going in.
Tin Foil Hat Specualtion #2
This panel and the following scene with Peter lead me to believe that perhaps Thanos and Peter are connected somehow, and simply can't kill each other. I also speculated that RichardRider either sacrificed, willing or not, his escape from the Cancerverse to allow Peter's escape. Again, from the Original Sin promos we've seen, Nova appears with Thanos. In my opinion, he doesn't look happy, and Thanos looks rather smug. I imagine them confronting Peter. Perhaps Thanos and Peter /are/ connected and /can't/ kill each other, but that may not extend to Nova.
If Peter used Nova to orchestrate his own escape, leaving Nova behind, that would make for a very cranky Nova. Our Peter seems more impetuous now than he did during DnA's run. However, during DnA's run the status quo was a bit different. The Guardians were more organized and could be held more responsible for their actions, as to now, they're outlaws on the run and don't have Cosmo looking over their shoulders all the time. Perhaps that kept Peter in check a little more. Classic StarLord was always closer to this cocky and impetuous StarLord we have now.
But that's assuming Peter did it all on purpose! Another way to go is that during the act of trying to escape, something went wrong and Peter was able to slip through and Richard wasn't. Thanos could easily spin that into Peter leaving Richard behind.
Tin Foil Hat Speculation #3 - Where the flark is Bug??
Unfortunately we have yet to get an answer to this. He shows up out of the blue in the middle of the timeline and then we never see him again. While I'm sure they took him out to keep from confusing new readers who were coming in on the tails of the Guardians of the Galaxy movie news, it's still very frustrating and something they should've considered before throwing a fan favorite in there only to yank him out later. I like endings. I like complete stories with no cliffhangers and unexplained questions. They gave us a small Mantis cameo in Volume 3, which was appreciated and loved, and I'd love to see something like that for Bug.
So there you have it, Galaxians. Way off base on one, the second half-explained and still could go either way, and then you have Bug's disappearance still unexplained. Another two points that our fearless leader Cameron brought up in the comments of the last post...
Who was that in Rocket's Infinite Comic?
Who put a hit out on Gamora and why did that mercenary guy not die?
We still haven't seen anything touched on the Rocket storyline that was set up, and there's so much potential there that it's hard not to feel frustrated that we haven't seen anything on that - but in a good way! We just really want to see that story.
We have seen a little more on Gamora's assassination attempt. The Badoon hired the assassin to capture Gamora, as seen in Guardiansof the Galaxy #14. So we're on the verge of seeing that particular storyline come to fruition.
Can you think of any other storyline that haven't been wrapped up? Give us your own speculations, no matter how crazy they may be!
