All-New X-Men #24
Written by: Brian Michael Bendis

Before starting 'The Trial of Jean Grey', I hadn't been keeping up with All-New X-Men at all, but this issue might have got me hooked. The issue starts off at the trial of Jean Grey. She is a prisoner of the Shi'ar, and let's just say they haven't been treating her with much respect. Gladiator is the head of this whole sordid affair, and he keeps pushing Jean Grey until she's about to explode. Then, once again, J'son of Spartax shows up. He brings something previously unknown to Jean Grey to light, which doesn't sit well with her at all. Meanwhile, the X-Men, Starjammers, and Guardians are in space, sneaking their way through a sea of Shi'ar vessels in attempt to get to Jean Grey.

The issue doesn't focus too much on the Guardians, but I don't think they were ever intended to be the focus of 'The Trial of Jean Grey'. They do, however, get some great comedic moments, especially one scene involving Starlord talking to the younger X-Men. We also see more of Angela being awesome, as she demonstrates her skills by taking on a whole squad of Shi'ar guards all by herself.

The artwork and writing are great as usual. Stuart Immonen does a great job drawing these characters. He ranks up there with Sara Pichelli for being able to convey so much emotion through the character's facial expressions. Bendis keeps the humor going strong, while also making us very worried about Jean Grey, and what she is capable of.

Another great issue. Rating: 4.5/5
